5 Days Desert Tour from Tangier

Welcome to Tangier for a 5-day Sahara Desert Tour via Merzouga, the gateway between Europe and Africa. We will pick you up from your Hotel in Tangier and take you on a scenic drive to the city of Fes, the cultural capital of Morocco. On the way, we will pass through the Rif mountains and several small towns, including Chefchaouen, also known as ‘Chaouen’ by the locals. As it is a small town, you will have plenty of time to explore this blue Moroccan pearl. After lunch, we will bid farewell to Chefchaouen and continue our journey south to Fez, one of Morocco’s most beautiful imperial cities. Overnight in Riad

This day of our Private 5-day trip from Tangier to explore the UNESCO-protected medina of Fez with the help of a local guide. The city of Fès is divided into two old medina districts, namely Fès el Bali and Fès el Jdid, and the Ville Nouvelle, which was designed by the French in the early 20th century. You can also visit the 14th-century Al Attarine medersa and admire the zellij tiles before visiting one of the oldest still-operating universities in the world, Al-Qarawiyyin University (859 A.D.). Finally, you can find the Mellah (former Jewish quarter) in Fès el Jdid for a panoramic view of the city.

You will depart from Fez early in the morning and head towards the Middle Atlas Mountains. During this tour, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful walk through Berber villages. After lunch, you will continue your journey towards Erfoud. Upon arriving at Merzouga, you will meet your camels and embark on a ride across the desert, over the red dunes, until you see nothing but sand and sky. After some time to admire the sand dunes and surrounding scenery, you will enjoy a Moroccan dinner served under the stars next to the campfire. After dinner, you will gather around the fire to enjoy typical Berber music performed on drums under a sky full of stars.

If you’re fond of watching the sunrise and don’t mind waking up early, you might want to witness the sun’s morning arc illuminating the desert shadows. After that, you can head back to a local hotel, take a hot shower, and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Our journey will continue as we leave Merzouga for Rissani, which is home to the largest and busiest weekly market in southern Morocco. Our next stop is Erfoud, which is famous for its fossilized marble. From there, we’ll proceed to the Todra Gorge, the highest oasis valley gorge in Morocco. We’ll meet up at the gorge and walk beneath the 300m-high red cliff, a popular spot for climbers. A night in a beautiful hotel at the heart of the valley.

On the last day of our 5-day desert tour from Tangier to Merzouga, we continue along the Dades Valley towards Ouarzazate, famously known as “Moroccan Hollywood” due to its popularity in the film industry. Here, we will visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, an ancient Ksar that has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The final leg of today’s journey is over the High Atlas Mountains on the impressive zig-zag road of the Tiz n Tichka pass, before arriving in Marrakech.
